The best affordable bourbon, if you are a long time bourbon drinker, is Wild Turkey 101 at around $40/1.75L.

The best affordable bourbon, if you are a new bourbon drinker, is Buffalo Trace at around $50/1.75L.

The best bourbon if you are just getting into bourbon, it has a sweet and delicious profile that is most likely to turn you on to bourbon is Blanton's at around $70/750ml.

I don't drink a lot but I like Jack which isn't too expensive. I think about the same as the Wild Turkey you suggested. Can you substitute Turkey for Jack or do you think the taste is a lot different?

Other than a few single barrel varieties which are wholly unique I haven't had the regular Jack. I'll have to try it one of these days.

Jack is pretty good I think. I drink it more in the winter months when it's cold and I mix it with coke. They blend a Gentleman Jack which is refined twice. I think that's what they call it and it is good drinking it straight over ice.

Wild Turkey: Kentucky Spirit

Distillery: Austin, Nichols Distilling Company
Proof: 101
Age: Unstated, believed to be 8-9yrs
Barrel: New Charred Oak
Price: $65/750ml
Color: Golden Amber
Nose: Loads of Caramel and Butterscotch, Vanilla, Brown Sugar
Palate: Caramel, Brown Sugar, Vanilla
Notes: Wild Turkey is rapidly becoming my favorite bourbon producer, all of their stuff is great, this is no exception. This stuff is straight up liquid candy, sweet and sticky with zero alcohol burn.
Rating: 9.0/10

There are some pretty pricey bourbons and probably other liquors as well. What do you think is the best low cost bourbon?

I'll have to start with the 101 and work my way down the list. Can you drink it with coke or is it more of an on the rocks type drink? I've had Jack & Coke like others said and that's a good and very easy drink to make. I think Jack is about the same price as the 101. I've had Turkey before, but not sure if it was the 101 or what it was, but it was pretty good on the rocks.

I drink everything neat but it really is a matter of preference, there is no wrong way as long as you enjoy it

I don't drink whiskey, but this is a good thread. Maybe I should try a nice delicious drink sometime.
